April 12, 2024

 Dear Parents,

Monday, April 15 is our annual Sprint Day. All students were given a shirt yesterday. These can be worn to school on Monday along with their gym pants. Parents are invited to come cheer the students on. We will be running from 9:05-9:25. It promises to be a fun time! If you are sending in money for the Sprint Raffle on Monday, please be sure to label the envelope SPRINT RAFFLE, as we have the Grade 1 raffle going on next week too. (see below) I want to be sure to get the money to the correct place. Thank you for your help with this!

Next week is the Grade 1 raffle. Be sure to send any money in an envelope marked GRADE 1RAFFLE by Thursday. We will then send home the correct amount of sheets for you to fill out, cut and return the next day.

We have been working on remembering our addresses and phone numbers. I am so proud that many know them! Continue practicing at home, as I will continue to check on their progress with this.

We are in need of paper towels and tissues. As it is coming close to the end of the year, 1 box of tissues and 1 roll of paper towels would be greatly appreciated.

In Language Arts we worked on letter Vv, focusing on the sound v as in vacuum. We read the story The Pet Hospital, where our friend Golly got hurt, but is helped by the vet. Our Superkid program is really starting to roll and stories are becoming more complex, requiring a lot of blending. Continuing to help them blend smoothly as they read at home will help with consistency in reading. In math, we finished our chapter on time and began our chapter on measuring.  In Religion we talked about the butterfly lifecycle and how it represents new life. We also discussed Holy Week.

Update! I have updated the sight words section of my page (see the link at the top right of the page). These words are important to practice as they will be helpful to their success in reading. We play sight word ladder, climbing up the ladder as they hop to each word they say. They love looking for them in familiar stories. Even spelling them with letter magnets, all fun ways to practice.

Please check back as I update every Friday.

Have a good weekend!
